The Center for Public Integrity's annual analysis of state lobbyists has found that the influence of industry continues to grow in state capitals such as Lansing. Lobbyists and their employers spent a record $1.3 billion

Nationwide, the average ratio for lobbyists to legislators is around 5 to 1. However, in Michigan, the ratio is 8 to 1 with 1,283 registered lobbyists lobbying Michigan's 148 Senators and Representatives. Over $22.6 million was spent on lobbying in Michigan.

I believe that's $22.6 MILLION, not BILLION. Still, way too much.

Also, another point--MCFN found total spending by lobbyists as follows:
2005 $29.7 million
2006 $29.8 million
The latter is much higher than what CPI shows. There was not the big drop between 2005 and 2006 as CPI shows.
