On Monday, the antiwar group ACTIVATE/SDS held a small protest outside of a "get out the vote" rally organized by Republican Senator John McCain's presidential campaign. At the rally, around ten protestors held a large banner reading "US Out of Iraq" and chanted "No Justice, No Peace, US Out of the Middle East."

McCain--who decided at the last minute to attend the Detroit Automobile Show instead--has repeatedly made statements supporting an indefinite occupation of Iraq. McCain supported President Bush's escalation of the war and has consistently advocated for a more aggressive approach towards Iraq. In recent weeks, McCain said that he would support a US presence in Iraq for up to "a million years."

During the rally, McCain's wife Cindy McCain spoke in his place and said that McCain supports the ongoing war in Iraq in part to ensure that the sacrifice of US soldiers is not in vain.
