Romney Outspends Opponents in GOP Primary

|

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was the leading buyer of television ads among the candidates in Michigan's Republican Primary. According to the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, Romney spent more than $2 million on television ads. His spending was three times that of John McCain and four times that of Mike Huckabee. All of Romney's ad buys were on broadcast television, he spent no money on cable ads. Romney began an "ad blitz" in the state on December 12, whereas McCain and Huckabee did not begin running ads until early this month.

The Michigan Campaign Finance Network noted that although results have been different in Michigan's Republican primaries, statistically 95% of election winners spend more than their opponents.
