March is Women's History Month and March 8th is International Woman's day. In light of this, several events have been planned by local organizations and women.
This Friday, A Spectacular Fanfare of the Dames: Performances and Art Celebrating Women's History Month is being put on by the Division Avenue Arts Cooperative. Beginning at 6pm there will be a gallery opening featuring a wide variety of talented women artists as well as informational booths and vendors. From 9 to 12pm there will be a variety show featuring all women performers. Their acts will range from Belly Dancing, Butoh, Poetry, Classical Guitar, Short Film and Theatrical pieces. This event will take place on Friday, March 4th, 2005 at the Division Avenue Arts Cooperative, 115 South Division. For more info contact Tami Vandenberg.
On Friday March 18th, there will be an International Women's Day celebration at Grand Valley State University's Loosemore Auditorium on the downtown Grand Rapids campus. A film series will begin at 3 p.m., including 4 and 5:30 showings of the film "Standing with the Women of Iraq". Food and refreshments will be provided at 6 p.m., and a presentation by internationally known human rights activist Ninotchka Rosca at 7 p.m. This event is free. Planned Parenthood Centers of West Michigan invites people to Talking About Choice on Tuesday March 15th, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. This is a free workshop in which a representative from Planned Parenthood Federation of America will offer practical tips for talking about the issues surrounding reproductive choice.
