The Michigan Organizing Project (MOP), one of the numerous community groups participating in organizing efforts against the immigration “reform” measures currently being debated in the Congress, has organized another protest this Friday, as well as a boycott for the week of April 10.
Tomorrow’s protest, described by organizers as an “urgent demonstration” due to the fact that “our future is on the line,” will take place at an undisclosed location in the Grand Rapids area. Organizers all calling on people to meet at 2:00pm at the “Gigante Supermall” on 28th Street between Kalamazoo and Breton (the location of Woodland Skating), where busses will take people to the target of the protest. The protest will take place from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
The group has also called for a boycott of companies that exploit immigrant labor and support anti-immigrant politicians. According to a flyer circulated by MOP, the following companies support anti-immigrant politicians and will be targeted by the boycott:
- Miller Beer
- Comcast
- DirecTv
- Bank of America
- Sprint-Nextel
- Sears
- K-Mart
- AT&T
- Fox News
- MCI
- Kimberly Clark (makers of Kleenex, Scott brand paper towels, Kotex, Depends, Pull-Ups, and Huggies)
