Video Used to Clear RNC Protestors of Charges in NYC

|

According to an article in the Tuesday New York Times, many of the charges brought against protestors from last years RNC protests have been overturned due to video footage contradicting police accounts. Video footage gathered by the group I-Witness Video has been used to clear over 400 of the wrongly arrested. The article goes further alleging that the NYPD selectively edited video tape to incriminate protestors. In the case of Alexander Dunlop, I-Witness Video was able to present video proving that the police footage had been tampered with, resulting in the prosecution immediately dropping the charges. The city has claimed that the tape tampering was "accidental". Accoding to Democracy Now, of the nearly 1,700 cases involving convention arrests that have run their full course, 91 percent ended with the charges dismissed or with a verdict of not guilty after trial.
