In an article that appeared Friday in the San Jose Mercury News, Grand Rapids area Congressional Representative Vern Ehlers addressed the fact that the "Wall of the Fallen" that he helped setup last year in Congress' Rayburn Office Building is rapidly running out of space due to continuing casualties in Iraq. According to the article, Representative Ehlers said, "Boy, we could have a problem. More space is needed," when asked recently about the fact that the memorial has run out of room. Ehlers elaborated by saying that it was difficult to plan how much space was needed since the war was ongoing.
Ehlers' comments do not address the real "problem," the ongoing war in Iraq. Ehlers does not mention the fact that as of press time 3,376 US soldiers have been killed, a number that has been increasing since the start of President George W. Bush's "surge." Ehlers has supported the "surge," voting against a resolution opposing it and defending it last month at Calvin College.
California Democratic Party Representative stated that the wall was "another example of how pathetically unprepared and unrealistic the supporters of this war have been."
