In an email sent by local organizers with "the Iraq Summer" campaign organized by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, organizers have announced another protest against Ehlers after he voted against the "Responsible Troop Redeployment Act" and refused an invitation by the campaign to "discuss his view of the Iraq War."

The announcement for the protest:

Congressman Vern Ehlers voted last Thursday to continue the endless war in Iraq. While the "Responsible Troop Redeployment Act" passed in the House of Representatives, Rep. Ehlers and four other Michigan representatives voted against the legislation. This latest vote by Ehlers shows how out of touch he is with Michigan voters and a majority of Americans. A recent USA Today poll found that 7 in 10 Americans want to end the war in Iraq.

Tuesday, Congressman Ehlers turned down an invitation to Take A Stand, a town hall meeting to explain his stance on the Iraq War, to be held August 28th.

You are invited to join us this Thursday, July 19th, in front of the Gerald R. Ford Federal Building for a rally protesting Rep. Ehlers' vote for more war and his refusal to talk to constituents about his vote. We will have a visible presence from Noon to 1:00 p.m., and a speaker will address the gathering at 12:15 p.m. Please come out and show Rep. Ehlers that you support the troops and want them home, now.

The Gerald R. Ford Federal Building is located at 110 Michigan St. NW in downtown Grand Rapids, with parking on Ottawa Ave. There will also be opportunities to write letters to the editor and phones to call Rep. Ehlers' office direct. Come out and let your voice be heard loud and clear.
