Voters in Grand Rapids and Wyoming will have a primary election on August 2nd. In Grand Rapids, voters will vote for three City Commissioner seats and two Library Commissioner seats, while in Wyoming voters will select a Mayor, Council Member at Large, and Ward 3 Councilmember. If any candidate in the Grand Rapids race earns over 51% of the vote, they will automatically win and bypass the November 8 general election. In advance of the election, local public access channels are airing candidate forums, partially filling the gap left by the local media's dismal coverage of local elections.
GRTV's LiveWire Channel 24 will air a candidate forum featuring candidates for City Commission on the following dates:
- Thursday, July 21 at 7:00 pm
- Sunday, July 24 at 6:00 pm
- Saturday, July 30 at 10:00 am
- Sunday, July 31 at 6:00 pm
Wyoming's WKTV Channel 26 will air a program consisting of presentations by each of the candidates explaining why they are running for office. The program will begin air for the first time on Wednesday, July 20 at 9:00pm and will air every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:00pm until the August 2nd election.
