It would appear the Bush administration knows no limits when it comes to invoking fear to justify its agenda. On Wednesday, acting Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Lester M. Crawford stated that terrorists might try to attack the domestic food and drug supply, particularly illegally imported prescription drugs from Canada. "We get our cues from chatter that occurs around the world," said Crawford, "which is related to us by the intelligence community, and also from past incidents and things that happened domestically." The only "domestic incident" Crawford was able to note was the Tylenol tampering incident twenty-two years ago that killed seven people and lead to the introduction of tamper resistant bottles. Regardless, he went on to speculate "I would think that's something they (terrorists) would be looking at." It should be noted that the 1982 Tylenol incident had nothing to do with Al Qaida, which did not even exist untill 1988. Could this warning of terror-tampered drugs have anything to do with the fact that John Kerry supports the importation of cheap Canadian medications and George Bush does not? Bush spokesman Steve Schmidt had this to say about Kerry's criticisms of Bush's prescription drug policy, " (Kerry's) scare tactics aren't going to earn him the trust of America's seniors."
