Today the Michigan Campaign Finance Network issued a press release commending a new study by Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law on elections in the Midwest. The study, titled "From Registration to Recounts: The Election Ecosystem of Five Midwestern States," rated Michigan's election system as "stable" but "vulnerable." In the section covering Michigan, there are details about what is working well in Michigan--an example being healthy working relationships between local and state election administrators--to what is working not so well (recent voting problems in Detroit). The report also examines how Michigan's election process could be improved and recommends that Michigan:
* Update the Qualified Voter File, which contains a large number of inactive or invalid entries
* Enhance the chief election officer's ability to ensure consistency among the local jurisdictions that administer elections.
* Improve poll worker recruitment and training.
Compared to other states in the survey, Michigan ranked in the middle.
