Activists Making Plans for Bush's Inauguration

|

As was the case at President George W. Bush's 2001 inauguration, large-scale protests are expected in Washington DC to coincide with Bush's January 20, 2005 inauguration. A number of different activities are planned for the protests, including permitted marches, a die-in organized by the DC Anti-War Network, and an effort to have large numbers of people infiltrate the parade route and turn their backs on Bush as he rides by. The media feared anarchists, who have already been involved in much of the ground work for the protests thus far, are also making plans for the inauguration. At the 2001 protests anarchists employing the black bloc tactic were nearly able to make it onto the parade route, which would have disrupted the inaugural.

For folks in Michigan who are interested in attending the protest, busses will be leaving from Ann Arbor. For more information, check out www.umjan20.org. While the national group United for Peace and Justice has called for protests around the country on January 20, 2005, no local plans have been made for protests.
