WZZM Newsreader #1 – It was a much different debate from the first one when Governor Jennifer Granholm and challenger Dick DeVos came together for round two in Grand Rapids.

DeVos – People in Michigan deserve better, I hope we can discuss the issues.

Granholm – Tonight we are going to talk, I certainly hope, about the plans for the future of the state of Michigan.

Newsreader #1 – Dick DeVos began the night by accusing the Governor of lying and blamed her for the states economic woes. He ran through a list of economic indicators he says shows Governor Granholm is not getting the job done. For her part Governor Granholm took her time to discuss the specific ways that she is rejuvenating the economy, she also criticized Dick DeVos for getting tax breaks for Amway and its parent company, Alticor. So who do you think won last nights debates? This is tonight’s exclusive survey USA news poll. The 400 people we asked 50% said Governor Granholm came out on top while 31% said Dick DeVos. 19% said there was no clear winner. Both campaigns say the other tells lies. Dick DeVos started a new TV commercial called fire Granholm.

Newsreader #2 – The Democrats in the meantime revealed Dick DeVos is a liar and as WZZM 13’s Peter Ross Reports it has to do with tissue paper.

Reporter – Amway tissue, Amway of course is the company Dick DeVos once presided over. The Democrats claim that Amway produced product in China for sale in the U.S.

Mark Brewer (State Democratic chairman) – I have with me as proof of that, a package of Amway light facial tissues.

Newsreader #2 – The state Democratic chairman says this evidence proves DeVos’ claim that an Amway product for sale in our country would have never been imported from China.

Brewer – Simply another reason Michigan voters cant trust Dick DeVos. But more importantly, how many Michigan workers could be employed if Amway, under Mr. DeVos’ leadership now were employing Michigan workers to make products that they are actually making in China and importing into this country.

Rob Zeiger – It is a diversion, it is a p.r. stunt, and it’s a waste of everybody’s time.

Newsreader #2 – Alticor spokesman Rob Zeiger says the tissue in question has the 1989 copyright, years before the company opened the plant in China. He also says Amway branded products have not been available for sale in the U.S for 5 years.

Rob Zeiger – The fact has been, the fact remains, nothing we produce at our fact in China is ever imported back to the U.S. for sale. Period. End of story.

Reporter – So, the exact origin of that 1989 Amway tissue might be another mystery in this campaign for Governor and Democrats say it was purchased from an Amway distributor in Michigan. Tomorrow DeVos and Governor Granholm will speak before Detroit’s Economic Club and we’ll be there. WZZM 13 will carry the candidates 3rd and final debate from Detroit Monday night.
