WZZM 13 acts as a Military Recruiter in Airing Marine Special
In an interesting example of media synergy and unquestioning support for the United States government, this weekend WZZM 13 will air a one-hour program promoting service in the Marine Corps. Unfortunately, this comes as no surprise given the station's unwillingness to critically report on United States foreign policy.

GRPS Passes Portions of Controversial Facilities Plan
At a meeting last night, the Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) board passed portions of a controversial facilities plan that will move or alter some of the school district’s most academically successful programs, including City High-Middle, Ottawa Montessori, and Fountain Elementary schools. The plan, which due to somewhat odd parliamentary procedure, was able to be voted down in its entirety by a vote of 5 to 4, had its most controversial parts passed in a series of votes on each of the plan’s five sections.

While the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) and the local media have trumpeted a new report by the GRPD containing details on the GRPD's Hindering and Opposing arrests as vindicating the Department, Media Mouse found several questionable traffic stops and arrests that had more to do with race than any possible crime.

Holland Peacemakers Call for Removal of City Commissioner from Committee Following Attack on Peacemakers

Grassroots Organizing Fair Draws 40 Groups at Wealthy Theatre
A grassroots organizing fair held by the Progressive Directory of Western Michigan last night at the Wealthy Theatre drew forty groups. While the attendance by people who were not affiliated with one of the tables was fairly low, the organizing fair allowed the groups that make up the Progressive Directory a chance to get together and admire the work that others in town are doing.

Solidarity Picket with Northwest Airline Machanics to be held in Grand Rapids
The Grand Rapids brach of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) is holding a solidarity picket with striking Northwest Airlines mechanics. The mechanics have been on strike since Northwest told them to accept pay cuts of 20% and the elimination of 1,000 jobs.
