200 Protest McCain and Palin in Grand Rapids
Yesterday evening, several hundred protestors gathered outside of the McCain / Palin "town hall" meeting in Grand Rapids to try to convey a number of different messages to those attending the rally. They ranged from simple opposition to "McSame" and support for Obama to calling for the immediate end of the US occupation of Iraq.

However, while the government has used the arrest to lend credence to its effort to link protestors with terrorism, the media has largely ignored the widespread FBI surveillance of people planning to protest the RNC.

Repression Planned for DNC Protests
At this year's Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver, Denver police and other law enforcement agencies have adopted a host of draconian security measures including restrictions on what protestors can carry, a fenced in "protest zone" out of sight of delegates, and a holding cell featuring chain link fence topped with barbed wire for the 1,200 protestors that the police plan to arrest.

This report-back comes out of Milwaukee where a "consulta" meeting was held last month to discuss plans for protests against the 2008 Republican National Convention (RNC). It was part of ongoing efforts against the RNC and was just one of many consultas that are occuring all over the country to prepare for both the RNC and the DNC.
