Analysis:

This story is an example of a growing problem with hyper-commercial media. At some level it makes complete sense why film makers and toy makers would want to partner in making money. However, this is a news story which basically tells viewers that there are spin-off toys of this film and when they will be available at the toy store.

Viewers of channel 13 news would have been better served by an investigation into the increasing amount of product placement in films and cross marketing of products with Hollywood.

Story:

WZZM 13 News reader - well the empire is invading Grand Rapids starting at mid-night. That is when the new Star Wars toys will go on sale at Toys R Us. That is your first chance to buy action figures from the new movie due out in May, Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Grand Rapids Toys R Us on 28th street will open its doors at 12:01.
