WOOD TV 8 News reader - New guidelines for treating obesity are going beyond exercise and diet. The American College of Physicians suggest everyone try to lose weight first through diet and exercise, but if that fails they say some obese people should consider taking medication for help. They also recommend surgery for morbidly obese people, those with a body mass index of more than 40. Researchers say reducing body weight can help curb high blood pressure and sleep apnea.
