Reporting on Drunk Driving........In Florida

Analysis:

Yet another example of a crime story that is from far outside of the local TV media viewing area. It is hard to see how this story would be news worthy, even if it had occurred locally. According to government stats, 2,117 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Kent county in 2004. Considering that people are arrested for DUI several times a day here in Kent county, one has to ask why the local media is reporting on a DUI arrest 1500 miles away.

Story:

Newsreader - Some Florida students set out for prom in a limousine, but got there in a squad car instead. Ten students riding for the dance realized their limo driver was drunk. After getting her to pull over, they called there parents for help.

Sheriffs Deputy - So these kids did the right thing, all kinds of right things happened here that kept a potential tragedy from happening.

Newsreader - Police arrested the limo driver who had a half a bottle of vodka in the car. She's been arrested for DUI's three times in the past and has multiple citations for open alcohol, not wearing a seat belt, and passing in the wrong lane.
