Famous Italian?

Analysis:

Two things can be said about this piece. First, why is this on during the newscast? What relevance does it have for viewers in West Michigan? Secondly, Tony Danza’s show airs on NBC, the same channel as WOOD TV 8. Was this just another attempt to promote the channel? Also, who do you think contacted channel 8 about the “surprise visit” from Danza? Was it GVSU or Danza’s PR people who were just doing their job?

Story:

WOOD TV 8 News reader - Grand Valley State University is getting some national attention thanks to a visit by Tony Danza. Danza dropped in on an Italian II class at the school on Wednesday night to help 22-year-old Beth Murawsky, who was giving a speech on the actor and talk show host.

Tony Danza - So what we did was we surprised her, we went there…so she was giving her presentation and I showed up to help her because I know a little bit about myself.

WOOD TV 8 News reader - After Danza left the classroom, a New York travel agent announced that the entire class was getting a free trip to Italy. He came into town just for the event and then returned to New York. He then taped the episode of his TV morning show in which his visit was talked about. This particular episode is scheduled to air May 4 at 11 a.m. on WOOD TV 8.
