Dick DeVos is traveling all across West Michigan telling people why he wants to be Michigan’s next Governor. Dick DeVos wrapped up a week long bus tour today at the Deltaplex in Walker. DeVos calls it his get it done tour. 24 Hour News 8’s political reporter Rick Albin was on the bus early today with DeVos as he made his round through West Michigan.
Reporter – For DeVos, the Deltaplex here in Walker marked the end of a five day 29 city swing. They called it the get it done bus tour, it was really the kickoff tour for the campaign. DeVos says it is important that the people of Michigan get to know him, but Governor Granholm says it’s too early.
Reporter (asking DeVos) – Is it an advantage to you, to be able to go out and do these things this early, and be able to devote one hundred percent of your time to campaigning? Is that more of an advantage to you than perhaps to the governor?
DeVos – Well I have to be, I’m the challenger and every challenger in American politics starts off the underdog. And for me, I haven’t had eight years of running state wide and of having, having my photograph in the statewide newspapers and having the opportunity to speak with you for the last eight years to become well known and to introduce myself to the people of Michigan.
Reporter (asking Granholm) – Obviously Dick DeVos is on the air with commercials, he’s on a bus tour, does that put pressure on you to start campaigning earlier?
Granholm – What I’m concerned about, is not my job, it’s getting jobs for others. We have a huge task ahead of us, to transform Michigan. We have set in motion a plan that is second to none to do that and I’ve got to work that plan every single day. It is still six months out from an election, earlier than it has ever started in Michigan’s history.
Reporter – With six months to go before the Governors race you’ll see many more rallies like this and probably many more tours. But the Governor still hasn’t fully engaged in this campaign, until she does, DeVos is campaigning largely alone. In Walker, I’m Rick Albin, 24 hour news eight.
