At no point in the debate announcements of all three stations is it pointed out that only two of the five gubernatorial candidates on the November ballot were invited to these debates. As with past debates in Michigan, the “third party” candidates were not included in these public debates. The third party candidates are Douglas Campbell of the Green Party, , and Bhagwan Dashairya of the Constitution Party.

WZZM Newsreader – Three debates between Michigan’s candidates for Governor have been set. Republican Dick DeVos and Democrat Jennifer Granholm will face off on October 2 in East Lansing, October 10 in Grand Rapids, and on October 16 in Detroit. They will all be televised. WZZM 13 plans to broadcast the October 16 debates starting at 8pm. Details are still being worked out. The candidates will also appear together at the Detroit Economic Club on October 12. In the last race for Governor in 2002, there was only one debate between the candidates.
