The League of Conservation Voters recently published its annual "National Environmental Scorecard" rating legislators in the United States House and Senate on their environmental records. Of course, this means that Senators in the presidential race--Republican John McCain and Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama are rated. All three missed several key votes, which brought their ratings down. The worst was Senator John McCain, who missed every key environmental vote identified by the League of Conservation Voters.
Their ratings and links to their voting records:
* Hillary Clinton - Clinton's score in 2007 was 73% with a 87% lifetime rating.
* John McCain - McCain's score in 2007 was 0% with a 24% lifetime rating.
* Barack Obama - Obama's score in 2007 was was 67% with a 86% lifetime rating.
It is also worth noting that missed votes are a persistent problem for the Senators Clinton, Obama, and McCain. While many of these missed votes are due to their being absent, it may also have something to do with avoiding controversial votes. Back in December, Media Mouse reported that the Democratic Party presidential nominees have missed a number of key votes on issues ranging from the nomination of Attorney General Mukasey to the Peru Free Trade Agreement.
