Starting today, the liberal group MoveOn.org, is running a new advertisement in Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin attacking Republican presidential candidate John McCain for his support for the ongoing occupation of Iraq. The advertisement, viewable below, draws specific attention to McCain's comments that he would support a U.S. presence in Iraq for one-hundred years. However, McCain has since backed away from those comments and now advocates a presence at current levels until 2014, a position that is not that different from Democratic Party candidate Barack Obama.
The advertisement is a response to a McCain ad last week in which McCain portrayed himself as a reluctant supporter of war. MoveOn.org's primary strategy for campaigning against the Iraq War in 2008 is to run television ads in support of Democratic Party candidates. It pans to spend as much as $30 million on advertisements.
