Mediamouse.org: Independent News and Media for Grand Rapids Michigan

Our primary means of distributing content is this website which fuses various blogging technologies with independent media production and citizen journalism. We aim to cover local events and issues that, for a variety of institutional reasons, are not covered in the corporate media. Our media production is divided into the following categories:

Features

Features are longer stories that cover original topics with a particular emphasis on local events and issues that are receiving little or no attention in the local corporate media. We aim to provide the perspectives, analysis, and context that are frequently missing in the type of coverage that has become the norm in the corporate media.

News Briefs

News briefs consist of semi-daily news updates covering a variety of topics that are receiving little attention in the corporate press. When writing news briefs, we include a multitude of links in order to encourage readers to investigate the topics further. Additionally, each day we highlight interesting articles published around the web.

Commentary

Media Mouse regularly publishes commentary from various local activists involved in movements for social change. Commentary covers a wide range of topics from opinion pieces on current affairs to strategic pieces discussing various movements for social change.

Book Reviews

Books on history, current affairs, and social change are regularly reviewed by Media Mouse as a way of promoting the importance of ongoing self-education.

Photographs

We regularly take photographs of local and national events and make them available online.

Video

Media Mouse occasionally produces videos covering local and national events in addition to taping various speakers in Grand Rapids and the surrounding area. Media Mouse's videos are available online and have regularly been aired on GRTV.

Audio

We occasionally record various speakers and provide their lectures online in MP3 format. Additionally, a podcast of Media Mouse produced audio is available.

Flyers, Posters, and Leaflets

Over the years, Media Mouse has produced a variety of flyers and posters that have been used to advertise events and serve as resoruces for popular education.
