Recent Terror Alert Based on Old Intelligence

Tom Ridge Terror Alert

A recent terror alert issued by the United States government, which originally garnered a significant amount of coverage in the corporate media for its unprecedented level of specificity, is now being reported to have been based on pre-9/11 intelligence. In addition, other claims–such as the possibility of terrorists recently conducting “practice” operations in the United States–has been proven to be false.

In response to this latest alert, some are beginning to openly question the timing of these warnings. Last month, a “terror alert” was issued in advance of the Democratic National Convention, raising questions about whether the alert was used to provide a pretext for restricting protest. With the most recent alert, people are pointing out how Bush uses the terror alerts to promote a sense of general fear that may help his reelection prospects.
