RNC Update: Mayor Bloomberg calls Freedom of Speech a Privilege

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg made a veiled threat on Tuesday to revoke the free speech rights of RNC protestors. In a statement at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Bloomberg referred to the rights of free speech and free assembly as “privileges” and suggested that they could be lost if abused. “People who avail themselves of the opportunity to express themselves … they will not abuse that privilege,” the Mayor stated. “Because if we start to abuse our privileges, then we lose them, and nobody wants that.”
