Tomorrow night at the Wealthy Theater there will be a free showing of the pro-Kerry film Going Up River at 7pm sponsored by Moveon.org.
The film is about Kerry during Vietnam placing “particular emphasis on his bravery during the Vietnam War and his courageous opposition to the war upon his return.” It would seem that this film is being distributed in order to bolster Kerry’s credibility amongst the anti-war crowd, as it focuses on his antiwar activities thirty years ago rather than his current pro-war activities. While Kerry might have been a legitimate anti-war voice at one time, currently he is sounding like the president who had him under investigation thirty years ago, Richard Nixon. Tricky Dick ran for re-election in 1968 claiming that he had a “secret plan” to end the Vietnam War. Kerry claims to have a plan to get US soldiers out of Iraq. In reality, Nixon’s “secret plan” involved escalating the war and illegally expanding it to neighboring Laos and Cambodia. Kerry, who has not been very forthcoming as to the specifics of his plan, had this to say at the conclusion of the first presidential debate: I have a plan for Iraq. I believe we can be successful. I’m not talking about leaving. I’m talking about winning.
