This morning the Grand Rapids Community Media Center launched a new weekly radio program on WYCE 88.1 FM. The 30 minute weekly program titled Catalyst Radio features information on local events and current affairs. “As the media landscape continues to be consolidated, local perspectives, voices and information will be more and more critical” says CMC’s executive director Dirk Koning. “This program is a continuation of the Media Center’s mission to, “Build Community Through Media by amplifying local messages.”
The program format includes “behind the headlines” analysis of local media, interviews with community-based organizations and a calendar of community events. WYCE programmer and CMC staff member Linda Gellasch will host the show, with GRIID staff Tom Schwallie and Jeff Smith providing commentary. Catalyst Radio joins current efforts at CMC with similar missions including the weekly GRTV show, “Weekly View”, and the CMC on-line newsletter, “e-Catalyst”. Catalyst Radio airs every Friday 8:30 – 9am on 88.1 FM WYCE. The show can also be downloaded in mp3 format at the Catalyst Radio website.
