Local Protests Mark Bush Inauguration

Several small local protests marked yesterday’s inauguration of George W. Bush. According to the West Michigan Justice and Peace Coalition, approximately two dozen people showed up in downtown Grand Rapids to march in front of the Federal building while some others also handed out leaflets at the post office. The corporate Grand Rapids Press reported that “more than a dozen” Lowell High School students protested against the inauguration in downtown Lowell. The Grand Rapids Press did not report on the WMJPC march.

According to the Michigan IMC site, about 100 people in Traverse city had a spirited and satirical protest mocking the president. Calling themselves the Theater of the Absurd and the Charade of a Parade, the protest featured Billionaires for Bush, Mother Earth, Chief Justice, musicians and, of course, the Emperor himself, George Bush.
