MediaMouse.org was a leftist blog and news website covering Grand Rapids, Michigan that existed in varying capacities from 1999 to 2009. We stopped publishing in June of 2009, you can read more about why here. This site now archives all of our content so that hopefully folks can learn and/or be inspired by the past several years of activism in Grand Rapids.

WMJPC Announces Plans for Bush Inauguration Event

Posted: January 10th, 2005 | Author: edcutlip |

The West Michigan Justice and Peace Coalition (WMJPC) has announced plans for a demonstration in response to President Bush’s inauguration. The “Confronting Empire” working group is also meeting on Tuesday to discuss plans for an event in solidarity with those demonstrating against Bush’s inauguration in Washington DC.

The full text of the WMJPC call:

Thursday, January 20, at 12:00 p.m. in response to the inauguration of “President” George W. Bush.

Activists in the Grand Rapids area are invited to gather at noon on the corner of Ottawa NW and Michigan NW, by the Federal Building. Activists in the Kalamazoo area can join the Kalamazoo Non-Violent Opponents of War (KNOW), which has announced a demonstration beginning at 11:50 a.m. in front of the Federal Building in Kalamazoo. Activists in other West Michigan communities may wish to meet at their local federal government buildings (such as post offices).

Feel free to bring a sign, and remember to wear a white arm band all day! White is the nationwide symbol of mourning (as KNOW has pointed out, it is the traditional color for mourning — or it was, until Queen Victoria popularized black).

From the Grand Rapids Federal Building, we may proceed to another location (such as the post office) and distribute leaflets.

Call the IGE office in Grand Rapids at (616) 454-1642 with questions or comments. If there are any changes in the US Inaugural, we will revise these plans to reflect our response!

Pass the word far and wide, and hope to see you at Noon on January 20!!
