Chamber of Commerce Sponsors CAFTA Presidents Tour

The US Chamber of Commerce, who has come under fire for distorting evidence about NAFTA in order to promote CAFTA, is sponsoring a tour by the presidents of the Central American countries involved in CAFTA as a “barnstorming tour to garner support for DR-CAFTA.” The tour will feature events in ten cities around the United States on May 9 through May 10 in order to “rally the support of local communities and business leaders” in advance of the expected vote on CAFTA in May.

As most readers no doubt know, the US Chamber of Commerce has been one of the major supporters of CAFTA and this tour, complete with presidents who supported CAFTA despite the opposition of large segments of their population, represents the business interests who support CAFTA. The tour is partially underwritten by various corporations and industry groups that have been strong supporters of CAFTA-Citigroup, FedEx, First Data Corporation, the National Corn Growers Association, and PriceSmart.
