Bush and Cheney Claim “Terrorists” want a Democratic Victory

Over the past few days, both President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have made assertions that “the terrorists” want to see a Democratic victory in the midterm elections. Over the weekend, Vice President Cheney stated that anti-Untied States forces in Iraq have increased their attacks to influence the elections while offering not evidence to back up his assertion:

Whether it’s al Qaeda or the other elements that are active in Iraq, they are betting on the proposition they can break the will of the American people. They think we won`t have the stomach for the fight long-term… It’s my belief that they’re very sensitive of the fact that we have got an election scheduled. And, you know, they can get on the websites like anybody else. There isn’t anything that’s on the Internet that’s not accessible to them. They’re on it all the time. They’re very sophisticated users of it.

On Monday, President Bush made similar remarks, stating at a campaign rally in Georgia that “the terrorists” will win if the Democrats win the election. Bush stated that “The Democrat approach in Iraq comes down to this: The terrorists win and America loses. That’s what’s at stake in this election.”
