Today, constituents of Grand Rapids area Representative Vern Ehlers and representatives of the Iraq Summer campaign hand-delivered an invitation urging Ehlers to attend a town hall meeting on August 28th. According to a press release sent out by the campaign, the group is asking that Ehlers attend the event to explain his position on the war. The full invitation reads:

Voters of the Third District and Representatives of the Iraq Summer Campaign respectfully invite United States Congressman Vernon Ehlers to attend a town hall meeting with voters of the Third District to discuss his view of the Iraq War on August 28th at the Grand River Room at GVSU in Allendale, MI at 1:00pm.

RSVP to Ben Thielemier 454-1642

The Iraq Summer campaign is being organized by Americans against Escalation in Iraq as a means of pressuring forty legislators around the country to oppose President Bush’s Iraq policy. In Ehlers’ Third District, the campaign is demanding that “Ehlers stand up to the President and insist on a policy that responsibly brings our troops home” according to the press release accompanying Thursday’s invitation.
