Protestors Draw Attention to Global Warming at Huckabee Speech

heat is on

At Saturday’s speech in Grand Rapids by Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, several protestors held signs stating “Make Global Warming a Priority.” The small protest effectively caught the attention of people in the audience as well as Huckabee’s campaign staff, who allowed the protestors to remain citing respect for “free speech.”

The protest is part of a national effort by the League of Conservation Voters called “The Heat Is On (http://www.heatison.org)” that is seeking to make global warming a priority for the presidential candidates. The campaign has a breakdown of where all of the Democratic and Republican Party candidates stand on global warming, including Huckabee. According to the quotes on the site, Huckabee has not admitted that global warming is caused by humans. Similarly, global warming is not listed as one of Huckabee’s major issues on his website, nor is it mentioned in his platform on “Energy Independence.”

Aside from “The Heat Is On” campaign, the League of Conservation Voters also recently published a study showing that of the 2,679 questions asked of presidential candidates by the Sunday political talk shows, only 3 have mentioned global warming.
