The Grand Rapids Starbucks Union along with a union from Spain (based in Sevilla, Spain and affiliated with the CNT) have issued a call for a global day of action against Starbucks on July 5.

The unions are highlighting the fact that Starbucks intimidation efforts aimed at union organizers are similar across borders. On April 24, 2008, a barista was fired at a Starbucks in Sevilla for union activity. The Grand Rapids Starbucks Union says that this is similar to the charges of anti-union discrimination in Grand Rapids that are currently being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

The Grand Rapids Starbucks Union is hosting a protest on July 5 at the Starbucks strore located at the corner of 28th Street and the East Beltline. The protest will take place at 4:00pm.

Additionally, the Grand Rapids Starbucks Union has launched a new blog to disseminate information about its ongoing organizing at Starbucks.
