Baristas Announce Affiliation with Starbucks Workers Union

Baristas at a Starbucks store in Minnesota have announced their affiliation with the Starbucks Workers Union to demand that Starbucks pay its workers better wages and offer severance packages to baristas losing their jobs due to Starbucks closing of 600 stores. The store–located at the Mall of America–is the first in Minnesota to announce its affiliation with the union.

The Starbucks Workers Union has been active in Grand Rapids and has organized across West Michigan. Recently, barista Cole Dorsey was fired for union organizing at the East Grand Rapids Starbucks store. In an interview from earlier this month, Dorsey spoke about his firing and the worldwide effort to unionize Starbucks.
