Following the release of communique announcing a "red alert" for the Zapatista communities earlier this week, the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation has issued a second communique outlining the reasons for the red alert. According to EZLN, the red alert is a "precautionary defensive measure" that will be put in place as the EZLN holds a consulta for their troops, comandantes and comandantas, regional and local responsables and their support bases. During this consulta, the CCRI-CG of the EZLN is going to provide its members an analysis of the current situation and propose "a new step in the struggle."
A third communique issued this week announced that the EZLN has reorganized its political-military structure and now has "the necessary conditions in place to survive an attack or enemy action that would do away with our current leadership or which would attempt to annihilate us completely."
