Often when stories of violence in Iraq or Palestine are reported in the media, the focus is on the number of deaths with the wounded being an afterthought. Perhaps we need a better word than “wounded”, which can mean anything from a scraped knee to lost limbs and brain damage. Many of the wounded reported in news articles have received horrific injuries and the general description of “wounded” does not do justice to the severity of their condition.
