The mainstream press is waking up to the fact that thousands of innocent people died in Iraq, although the Associated Press' number of 3,240 is significantly short of the estimated 5,531 to 7,203 tabulated by the Iraq Body Count Project. Additionally, there is news to report about civilian casualties and international law. A Spanish judge is being asked to extradite three US military officers who are responsible for the targeting of two journalists who were killed in Iraq, as the killing of journalists is illegal. A recent study of Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) documents by Professor Thomas Nagy of George Washington University also raises concerns about serious violations of international law by the United States regarding the impact of sanctions on Iraq's water treatment facilities. These two instances are only a few of numerous violations of international law by the United States and Great Britain.
