07/17/03 - “Peace” in Iraq looks increasingly like Guerilla War

Remember how President Bush declared an end to hostilities in Iraq a couple months ago? Well, it appears someone forgot to tell the Iraqis that the war is over. To quote the Commander of US forces in Iraq Gen. John P. Abizaid "It's low-intensity conflict, in our doctrinal terms, but it's war, however you describe it," Moral is low as troop returns are being delayed. In a CNN interview, Jenna Hamilton, the fiancé of a US soldier in Iraq says “It's hard on the families, it's hard on the soldiers, and it's especially hard to know that you put your faith and trust into a president, and they continue to lie to you, they break promises, and it's hard to fight for somebody like that.” Meanwhile evidence is surfacing that some US troops killed in “accidents” in Iraq might actually be combat deaths.
