08/08/03 - Don't forget Venezuela

While our attention has been understandably focused on Iraq, let us not forget some of the other countries that the Bush administration has targeted in their quest to control the world’s oil market. Iraq was not the first government that was chosen for “regime change”, the democratically elected government of Venezuela was subject to a failed, US backed coup on April 11 2002. Venezuela is one of the major producers of oil in the Western Hemisphere and a OPEC member. It also has a democratically elected, leftist government that has been willing to make it’s own policies, independent of Washington. These considerations continue to make it a prime target in Bush’s war on Terror/war for oil.
