08/26/03 - A Detailed Look at the Occupation of Iraq

The September 2003 issue of The Progressive magazine has one of the best articles to date on the United States' occupation of Iraq. The article by Rahul Mahajan does an excellent job of placing the occupation within a global context, arguing that it is important to look at how the occupation in Iraq has been handled as it may be a blueprint for future occupations. He also provides an important comparison between the United States occupation of Iraq and its presence in Afghanistan, examining the two different post-war strategies.

The Progressive: Gunpoint Democracy in Iraq

While Raul Mahajan mentions how the United States is silencing the media in Iraq, there is another recent article that looks at how a prominent labor organizer in Iraq was arrested for leading a protest over the treatment of unemployed workers by the occupying US forces.
