09/02/03 - Al-Jazeera Back on the Web

During the invasion of Iraq, the Arab satellite news station Al-Jazeera's english langauge website was knocked offline by hackers. While there are certainly other news sources that could fill the gap, Al-Jazeera offered a very different perspective from the official Pentagon stories reported by the mainstream media in the United States. Al-Jazeera has drawn the ire Fox News and even the US government, both of whom have accused Al-Jazeera of inflaming tensions in the Middle East.

In addition to Al-Jazeera's return, there are two other articles worth reading today that also pertain the media and its role in the Iraq war. The first deals with the occupation and how its reported here in the United States. The second article is an older one, but it offers a vaulable look at how the mainstream media reported on the search for WMD in Iraq.
