09/17/03 - Wesley Clark to Run for President

According to media reports, General Wesley Clark, former NATO commander, is set to enter the race for the Democratic nomination in 2004. Clark's supporters have cited his record of military service as an asset in the campaign against President Bush, claiming that it is will be an important asset in proving that the Democrats are able to provide the security during the "war on terror." Repulbicans are currently using to concerns over Democrats inability to provide security to their advantage.

Michael Moore recently called for Clark to enter the race, claiming to have spent "a lot of time checking [him] out." However, there are a number of issues surrounding Clark's involvement with NATO in Yugoslavia -- the number of civilian casualties, Clark's own role in the conflict, and possible war crimes committed by NATO forces. Moreover, a new media advisory from FAIR questions the "anti-war" label often attached to Clark.
