09/24/03 - Counting the Iraqi Civilians Killed During the Occupation

In the United States one generally does not hear about the numbers of civilians killed in Iraq during the last March's intensification of the conflict in Iraq, instead we hear only of precision-guided bombs and efforts to limit "collateral damage." Of course, civilians were killed during the invasion, even if many people have not heard about the numbers. In this context, it may come as a shock to many in the United States that Iraqis continue to die in the chaos of the occupation, whether that be from hostile actions by the United States occupiers or by other causes such as crime that have emerged in the instability of Iraq.

Today's update features two stories on some the numbers of Iraqis killed since the occupation began, in addition to a survey conducted on Iraqi attitudes and an essay examining Bush's claims of morality in the Iraq war.
