The United States killed and injured journalists throughout the invasion of Iraq, and while they always claimed the incidents were accidental, it was not much of a stretch to see it as part of a pattern of targeting journalists. After a journalist was killed or injured, the United States always “investigated” the incident and the investigations predictably resulted in the exoneration of the soldiers involved. While incidents during the war were reported in the mainstream media, there has been less discussion on the targeting of journalists since the occupation. Today’s update consists of recent articles and reports covering the treatment of journalists since the occupation, both in terms of efforts to stifle reporting by force and by policy.
