The Underground Press in Grand Rapids
In the years before the internet, Grand Rapids, Michigan was home to a variety of underground newspapers and underground press publications. These publications provided a critical means of distributing information and fostering community within movements for social change. The publications, ranging from one issue publications to those that published for several years with wide circulation bases, remain important as sources from which those involved in contemporary struggles can learn from past movements.
Given the ephermal nature of many of these publications, it is often difficult to find information about underground newspapers. Consequently, we invite folks to contact us with both issues of underground publications or information about publications that we have missed.
