Sembramos, Comemos, Sembramos: Learning Solidarity on Mayan Time

Jeff Smith, producer of Reversing the Missionary Position, wrote a book exploring the concept of "learned solidarity" and the idea that after standing with the people in Guatemala/Chiapas that it is imperative that we work here in the United States to change the policies that make it nearly impossible to achieve lasting change in their countries. Smith contrasts this form of solidarity with dogmatic religion or political ideologies, with learned solidarity based on real principles of democracy, equality and mutual respect, not just paying lip service to it.
