This week's mobilizations against the G8 were disappointing. A year after thousands of people in Europe attempted to disrupt the G8 meeting in Evian, France, fewer than a thousand people are estimated to have participated in anti-G8 protests in Georgia and San Francisco. While some in the anti-globalization movement had realized that with the Miami Model and its increased militarization of summit security that confronting the G8 in a large protest would likely be ineffectual, calls for decentralized local actions against the G8 similar to those that took place on June 18, 1999 were made, and apparently, ignored.
