Robert Jensen: Pornography & Masculinity
In this lecture, author and professor Robert Jensen explores the realities of pornography. His analysis is rooted in a framework of sexual violence rather than seeing it pornography as an issue of expression or "fantasy." Consequently, his insights place pornography in its appropriate context within patriarchy.
In order to arrive at this analysis, Jensen approaches pornography as if it were any other type of media and seeks to understand it as a form of mass media. Assuming that it is a form of mass media, Jensen goes on to ask what that tells us about sexuality, masculinity, and ourselves.

Greg Grandin: Latin American and the US New Right
In this lecture, professor and author Greg Grandin explores Latin America and the rise of the so-called "New Right" in the United States. Grandin argues that the New Right coalition first came together in Latin America in the 1980s--uniting the religious right, the free-market right, and the neoconservative right. Grandin discusses various aspects of the New Right's involvement in Latin America from its staunch support for free-market capitalism to the role of the religious right in both aiding U.S. imperialism and providing a theological justification for it. Grandin also looks at how the lessons learned by the New Right in Latin America continue to influence both foreign and domestic policy.

Ray McGovern: Iraq, Government Intelligence, & the State of U.S. Foreign Policy
In this lecture, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern presents a history of the CIA--particularly focusing on the analytical wing in which he spent 27 years- -and relates it to the flawed intelligence that led to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. McGovern argues that the Iraq War was the result of the "politicization" of the CIA and that the Agency was willing to suppress its own doubts in order not to contradict the Bush Administration.
Beyond his analysis of the CIA, McGovern offers a wider critique of the "War on Terror" arguing that its "accumulated evils" of torture, kidnapping, and indefinite detention make it a "supreme international crime” under the Nuremburg principles.

Stan Goff: Is the U.S. Military Liberating Iraq?
In this lecture, veteran and former Special Forces soldier Stan Goff discusses the Iraq War and the antiwar movement in the United States. Goff uses his experience in the military to make a convincing argument for an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq. Among his many unique insights, Goff argues that the Iraqi insurgency will succeed in driving the U.S. out due to widespread opposition to the occupation among Iraqis. Goff places the war in a larger context of U.S. imperialism and calls for an anti-imperialist movement against the war that not only calls for an end to the Iraq War but a better world.

Bob Fritakis: What Really Happened in Ohio?
In this lecture, author, reporter, and activist Bob Fritakis discusses the 2004 elections and what happened in Ohio. Fritakis argues that there was a "very intentional" process through which numerous tactics were used to ensure that Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush won the state. He outlines what were essentially "high-tech Jim Crow conditions" designed to keep people from voting including everything from changing polling places at the last minute to problems with the voting machine. While the efforts of the Republicans (including J. Kenneth Blackwell) helped them win the presidency, Fritakis convincingly argues that the 2004 election in Ohio about more than whether Kerry or Bush won the presidency. Instead, Fitrakas asserts that the election has much to do with the future of our democracy.

Kari Lydersen: Globalization and Immigration from Latin America
In this lecture, journalist and author Kari Lydersen discusses globalization and Latin America. Much of the talk is based on the essays contained in her book "Out of the Sea and into the Fire: Latin American-U.S. Immigration in the Global Age" that explores a number of topics related to immigration. In the lecture, Lydersen discusses the impact of free trade agreements such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and development projects such as Plan Puebla Panama and their affect on immigration, as well as the anti-immigrant backlash in the United States. Recorded shortly after groups such as the Minuteman Project began to take the national spotlight in the immigration debate, Lydersen's lecture provides an important look at the human faces behind globalization and immigration.
